چکیده

Di cult real time AI problems require a means for expressing multi dimensional and dy namic goal criteria and a principled model for satis cing to best meet the criteria In the context of the Design to Criteria task scheduling paradigm we de ne a new general client spec i cation metaphor for describing such complex goal criteria or utility attributes and couple it with a principled evaluation model for using the criteria The criteria speci cation and corre sponding evaluation mechanism are used throughout the Design to Criteria scheduling process to focus scheduling activities on solutions and partial solutions that are most likely to meet the criteria i e to result in the focused production of custom satis cing schedules Examples of the power of the approach at reducing the complexity of the scheduling task and designing custom satis cing schedules are shown

Complex Goal Criteria and Its Application in Design-to-Criteria Scheduling

Difficult real-time AI problems require a means for expressing multi-dimensional and dynamic goal criteria and a principled model for satisficing to best meet the criteria. In the context of the Design-to-Criteria task scheduling paradigm, we define a new general client specification metaphor for describing such complex goal criteria or utility attributes, and couple it with a principled evalua...

Criteria-directed task scheduling

Scheduling complex problem solving tasks, where tasks are interrelated and there are multiple diierent ways to go about achieving a particular task, is an imprecise science and the justiication for this lies soundly in the combinatorics of the scheduling problem. Intractable problems require approximate solutions. We have developed a new domain-independent approach to task scheduling called Des...

Bi-criteria Three Stage Fuzzy Flowshop Scheduling with Transportation Time and Job Block Criteria

Scheduling is an enduring process where the existence of real time information frequently forces the review and modification of pre-established schedules. The real world is complex and complexity generally arises from uncertainty. From this prospective the concept of fuzziness is introduced in the field of scheduling. The present paper pertains to a bi-criterion in n-jobs, three machines fl...

Design-to-Criteria Scheduling: Managing Complexity through Goal-Directed Satisficing

Intractable problems require approximate solutions. We have developed a new domainindependent approach to task scheduling called De...

Modeling Uncertainty and its Implications to Sophisticated Control in TÆMS Agents

Open environments are characterized by their uncertainty and non-determinism. Agents need to adapt their task processing to available resources, deadlines, the goal criteria specified by the clients as well their current problem solving context in order to survive in these environments. If there were no resource constraints, then an optimal Markov Decision Process based policy would obviously b...
